I have a friend who has been sick for almost 35 years. Sometimes kind of sick. Sometimes feeling pretty good. Sometimes really sick and sometimes almost gone. I really can’t imagine. But he’s a really tough guy. Like my dad. My dad used to tell me there was a big difference between pain and discomfort. And he was one who knew because I don’t think he lived a week without discomfort.
My friend mostly keeps it to himself. At least to me. I think we all have friends who suffer more than we can imagine. Who are more brave than we think. And who may benefit from a little more kindness than we might usually offer. In fact, I think we can all benefit from more kindness than might usually be offered. Maybe that’s the way to go.
