I’ve been a very lucky guy. It might not feel like it right now but I’ve had some good breaks.
My parents, my uncles and aunts, my brother all loved me. I went to good schools, I had the best friends in the world. Even my friends’ parents were great.
I had a few pretty girlfriends. When I was a little boy I was kind of cute. When I was in my twenties, some women thought I was handsome.
I was good at cards, could write a tune, was as smart as most, was kind of funny at times.
I was tall, used to be athletic. One girlfriend, when I took off my shirt for the first time, said, gee, I thought you’d be bigger. It was winter and I wore heavy sweaters. At least she said it when I took off my shirt.
My wife was one of the best people I’ve ever known. No. She was the best person I’ve ever known.
She didn’t really like my music but I used to cook pretty well for her. And she made me laugh more than any one else in the world.
I’ve been very lucky. No complaints. A really good run. I once read that having the blues is just missing a kind-hearted woman.
I got three chords in my soul right now.
